The wife of late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, has died on Monday, less than two years after his death.
Mrs Agness Owusu-Afriyie who told close associates and friends about Sir John’s family refusal to even acknowledge and support her ill-health for which she was seeking treatment. The family further declined to offer any financial assistance from Sir John’s estates to support her even though they know her husband didn’t make adequate provisions for her as a surviving spouse and she was very sick. She is now reported dead.
According to reliable sources, the widow, whose status as wife and partner of Sir John for more than 25 years was being challenged by his family died in London yesterday, Monday, 29th August, 2022.
In an accusation she never spoke about, she was falsely accused of being the one who leaked the will of her late husband when sources say she had no idea and was shocked and disappointed about the leak.
Mrs Agnes Owusu-Afryie also popularly known as Akosua Darkoah had earlier sued the executors of the will of her late husband over attempts to sideline her in the entire process after properties were allegedly shared without her knowledge.
Late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (popularly known as Sir John) (1957 – 1 July 2020) was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. He held several political positions including serving as General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party. He was serving as the chief executive officer of Forestry Commission of Ghana before his demise.
In February 2022, Charles Owusu and one Nana Boakye Akeampong of Old Tafo who were jointly appointed by the late Sir John as Executors of Sir John’s will claimed Sir John did not formally marry Akosua Darkoah hence they didn’t recognize her.
According to statement of claim filed by her lawyer, Africanus Owusu-Ansah Esq, Mrs Owusu-Afriyie “contributed immensely” towards the success of Sir John.
Mrs. Owusu-Afriyie was normally resident in the United Kingdom where she was cohabiting with late Sir John and was the one who “prompted” him to come to Ghana and get into active politics.
