Two Chinese firms in Ghana face penalties for issuing fake VAT invoices to customers

Two Chinese firms in Accra face prosecution after the Regional Criminal Investigations Department, CID allegedly issued fake Value Added Tax (VAT) invoices.

The footwear and accessories wholesale firms , Hua Feng Trading and Zencsi Investment Company located at the Zongo lane in Accra are under investigation.

The two Chinese stores are alleged to be operating in the Central Business District with fake invoices and fake receipts for its customers.

The exercise by the authority is part of an ongoing invigilation by the Ghana Revenue Authority(GRA) to clamp down on businesses and individuals evading tax.

Businesses issuing their own VAT receipt to unsuspecting customers is an infraction on Ghana’s tax laws”.

The two Chinese companies will be assessed, preempt and charged the owed VAT with penalties before they can resume operations.
