NPP founding member Harona Esseku dies at 88

Harona Esseku, former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party and Minister of Transport and Communications in the Second Republic has died.

A brief statement from his family said, he died on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 and funeral arrangements will be announced on a latter date.

At 35 years, Harona Esseku became the youngest Cabinet Minister in the Busia government, in charge of Transport and Communications.

At the onset of the third republic he became a founding member of the Popular Front Party (PFP) and later a member of the steering committee of the party.

In 1992 he was a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He became chairman of the New Patriotic Party from 2001 to 2005.

Harona was a Christian and married to Janet Esseku, a Ghanaian broadcaster who worked with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. He was 88 years old.
