4 Chelsea players, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell were ruled out of the game against Everton after testing positive for COVID-19.
Kai Havertz felt unwell and was also absent from the Chelsea squad. He was awaiting his test results.
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed extra tests were done to make sure before picking the team as some players were feeling unwell and not training.
He said “We had to confirm the flow tests and wait for the PCR results. The results are the results and the situation is the situation. We still have a strong squad and one we want to push forward, and that should be able to compete. Like always, we focus on the guys who are there.”
Trevoh Chalobah, who had a hamstring strain and N’Golo Kante, came back to first-team training earlier this week after their spells on the sidelines.
Chilwell was already out with an ACL problem. He took part in some light running, although he could still require surgery on his injury.
Despite Chelsea’s injuries woes, Thomas Tuchel did not ask for the game to be postponed, which ended in a one all draw.
