Beirut blasts: More ‘communication devices’ explode in Lebanon day after Hezbollah members killed
Blasts were heard in Beirut a day after a series of pager explosions killed 12 people across Lebanon.
According to Reuters, citing a security source and a witness, communication devices used by Hezbollah detonated in southern Lebanon and in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Hezbollah’s Al Manar TV also reported explosions in multiple locations across the country, attributing them to the detonation of walkie-talkies.
Smoke was seen rising from a mobile shop in Sidon, south of Beirut, following the explosions on Wednesday. One of the blasts reportedly occurred near a funeral organized by Hezbollah for those who died in the previous day’s attacks.
In addition, Reuters, citing Lebanon’s state news agency, reported that three more people were killed in the Bekaa region in this latest wave of explosions.
These incidents follow a deadly string of attacks on Tuesday, where 12 people were killed and nearly 3,000 injured by pager explosions across Lebanon.
Two children were said to be among the dead, according to Lebanese health minister Firas Abiad.
