The military has raided and demolished a hidden settlement at Abrewa Ne Nkran in the Western Region, home to over 10,000 residents.
The community, founded by both Ghanaians and foreigners, is primarily engaged in illegal gold mining within forest reserves, and it is not listed in any official national records.
In addition to illegal mining, Abrewa Ne Nkran has been linked to human trafficking, child abuse, prostitution, and money laundering.
