US Election: Trump rallies in Butler, Pennsylvania, site of attempted assassination

Visit comes a month before November 5 election, as Trump seeks to boost support in key state.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate in the upcoming presidential election, returned to Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, the site where he survived an assassination attempt in July. The rally took place just weeks ahead of the November 5 election, where Trump remains in a close race with his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Addressing his supporters, Trump recalled the attempted assassination: “Exactly 12 weeks ago, on this very ground, a cold-blooded assassin tried to silence me and the greatest movement in our country’s history—MAGA.” He referred to the Make America Great Again movement, underscoring its continued strength.

Trump stated that his return to Butler was to show that his supporters stand “stronger, prouder, united, more determined, and closer to victory than ever before.” He also honored Corey Comperatore, an attendee who was killed in the July 13 attack, with Comperatore’s family in attendance, along with other victims who were injured that day. Trump was joined by his running mate, Senator JD Vance, and billionaire Elon Musk, who endorsed him shortly after the assassination attempt.

During the July incident, Trump narrowly avoided being hit by a bullet fired by a gunman positioned on a nearby rooftop. The former president was briefly taken to the ground by Secret Service agents but quickly stood up, despite being bloodied from a wound to his ear. He raised his fist and chanted “fight, fight, fight” before being escorted off the stage.
