
A tragic building collapse at Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi on Sunday, October 20, 2024, claimed the life of one person, while three others were rescued. The incident occurred early in the morning, trapping four construction workers beneath the rubble. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) quickly responded to a distress call at 2:45 a.m., with their Kejetia Fire crew leading the rescue efforts.
Three of the workers were successfully saved by the GNFS team, but one person was found dead at the scene. The deceased’s body has been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
Authorities are now investigating the cause of the collapse to determine if there were any safety violations. The GNFS, in its statement, emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols in construction projects to avoid such tragedies in the future. They praised the swift response that saved three lives but highlighted the need for stricter compliance with safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.
