I hope Mahama completes Agenda 111 – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize completing the Agenda 111 hospital projects as he assumes office.

Launched during Akufo-Addo’s administration at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Agenda 111 initiative aims to construct 111 district and regional hospitals, including psychiatric facilities, to address critical gaps in Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure.

Despite notable progress, many of the projects remain unfinished as President Akufo-Addo’s tenure concludes.

In his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, January 3, 2025, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the transformative potential of Agenda 111, describing it as a foundational effort to improve healthcare access and ease the burden on existing facilities.

“The pandemic exposed significant shortcomings in our healthcare system, prompting us to take measures to enhance preparedness for the future. The Agenda 111 project, designed to establish a hospital in every district, including two psychiatric hospitals, is our most significant intervention,” he said.

He reported that construction work is active in 99 districts and two psychiatric hospitals, with progress ranging from 5% to 95%. On December 3, 2024, three district hospitals were commissioned, marking tangible achievements under the initiative.

“I urge the incoming Mahama administration to ensure the completion of this project, which will greatly enhance Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and legacy,” he added.
