The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) workers have announced an indefinite strike set to begin on Tuesday, November 12, which is expected to significantly impact road infrastructure projects across the country. The strike is in direct protest against the government’s decision to implement the National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118) without halting for further consultation.
At the core of the workers’ demands is the removal of two key figures: Ing. I.K. Mensah, Chairman of the GHA Board, and Ing. Collins B. Donkor, CEO of the National Roads Authority (NRA). Workers allege that these officials have been involved in decisions that jeopardize the road sector’s integrity and undermine ongoing projects.
The GHA workers have formally petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, urging broader stakeholder discussions on the Act before moving forward. This strike follows the government’s continued push to implement Act 1118, which workers fear could adversely impact operational standards within the road sector. With critical infrastructure projects now likely to face delays, there is concern over the broader implications for transportation and economic productivity across Ghana.
