MP raises concerns on location of Akufo-Addo’s statue

Ellembelle MP Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has expressed criticism regarding the unveiling of a statue of President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi-Takoradi. Buah, who also serves as the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, questioned the President’s priorities, suggesting that the statue’s unveiling reflects misplaced focus given the region’s pressing needs.

In a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency, Buah described the statue as an “extravagant display of self-aggrandisement” that comes at a time when the Western Region continues to face significant challenges. He noted that the area remains underdeveloped despite being a major contributor to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and called for more substantial government attention to address the region’s socioeconomic issues.

Buah emphasized that the Western Region, often contributing heavily to the nation’s wealth, has been overlooked in terms of investment in essential services and infrastructure, which he sees as a more pressing concern than symbolic gestures like statues. He urged the government to prioritize meaningful development initiatives to benefit the people of the region.
