Ghanaian WW1, 2 veterans remembered

On Remembrance Day, observed annually on November 11, Ghana honored its veterans and the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the First and Second World Wars. The commemorative event, held at the Christiansborg War Cemetery in Osu, was attended by the Minister of National Security, Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah, alongside other high-ranking officials, members of the diplomatic community, ex-service members, and the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The day, also known as “Poppy Day,” is part of a tradition observed by Commonwealth nations to pay tribute to their Armed Forces members who lost their lives in service during the World Wars. The solemn event began with a procession led by the Ghana Army, marching through the cemetery entrance, which holds 419 graves of World War II casualties. This annual observance is a reminder of the bravery and dedication of those who served and the enduring legacy of their sacrifices.
