TEWU-TUC to strike today over unaddressed conditions of service

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) has commenced a nationwide strike today, Monday, November 18, in response to the government’s prolonged failure to address concerns about their conditions of service.

TEWU-TUC has expressed frustration over the delayed negotiations, signing, and implementation of revised conditions of service for workers under the Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Library Authority, Museums and Monuments Board, and Public Technical and Traditional Universities. These unresolved issues, which have persisted for years, have left union members dissatisfied and feeling undervalued.

Despite the industrial action, the National Labour Commission (NLC) has stepped in, summoning TEWU-TUC and relevant stakeholders to a meeting on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in an effort to resolve the impasse.

The union’s strike could significantly impact educational services nationwide if a resolution is not reached promptly.
