Electoral Commission to Reprint Ballots for Berekum West and East Constituencies

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to reprint presidential election ballots for the Berekum West and Berekum East constituencies in the Bono Region due to discrepancies identified in some of the printed materials.

According to a letter from the EC, signed by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, the discrepancies involve errors in the serial numbers on the ballot papers. In Berekum West, there is a mismatch between the serial numbers on the ballots and those on the counterfoils. This issue affects seven of the 100-booklet batches and one of the 25-booklet batches. Meanwhile, in Berekum East, the serial numbers are inconsistent and in some cases duplicated, impacting three of the 100-booklet batches, one of the 50-booklet batch, one of the 25-booklet batch, and two of the 10-booklet batches.

To resolve the issue, the EC will submit the affected ballot papers to the Ghana Publishing Company (Assembly Press) for reprinting. The Commission has also requested political parties and independent presidential candidates to send two representatives each to observe the reprinting process, which is scheduled for Friday, November 29, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Ghana Publishing Company’s premises in Accra.

The EC’s swift action aims to correct the errors and ensure the integrity and credibility of the election process in these constituencies.
