The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in Techiman, Bono East Region.
The incident reportedly took place as the Asantehene was returning from a funeral in Nkoranza, Bono East Region. According to preliminary reports, some youth believed to be from Techiman threw stones at buses in the convoy, causing unrest.
In a statement, the police assured the public of a thorough investigation and revealed ongoing engagements with the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and other stakeholders in Techiman.
“We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police as the investigation into the matter continues,” the statement read.
The police have appealed to all parties involved to exercise restraint and allow due process to take its course. Stakeholders have also been urged to contribute to peace-building efforts as investigations unfold.
