Unrest in Tema Central as EC postpones collation to Tuesday over safety concerns
Tensions have escalated in the Tema Central constituency following the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to postpone the results collation to Tuesday, December 10, citing safety concerns. The collation will now occur at 10 a.m. at the regional Police headquarters under heightened security.
The postponement stems from a dispute between the NDC candidate Ebi Bright and the NPP’s Charles Forson regarding the integrity of the electoral process. Earlier, provisional results had declared Ebi Bright the winner, prompting celebrations among her supporters. However, the NPP demanded a recount, which Ebi Bright vehemently opposed.
In a bold statement to her supporters, Ebi Bright reaffirmed her confidence in the original process, warning against any manipulation of the results. “I will not allow anyone to tamper with the will of the people. Any attempt to rig this election will be met with fierce resistance,” she stated.
The situation remains tense, with security forces deployed to maintain order. Both candidates have called on their supporters to remain calm as they await the final collation of results.
