NPP Kicks Off Campaign in Ablekuma North Ahead of July 11 Parliamentary Rerun

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially launched its campaign in the Ablekuma North Constituency ahead of the highly anticipated parliamentary rerun slated for Friday, July 11, 2025.

The rerun, which involves 19 polling stations, was ordered by the Electoral Commission (EC) to resolve disputes surrounding the authenticity of results from the December 2024 parliamentary elections.

This latest move by the NPP marks a sharp U-turn from its earlier stance. The party had previously declared its intention to boycott the process, firmly insisting that its parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, had legitimately won the initial vote. The party also accused the EC of attempting to undermine the electoral will of the people by calling for a rerun.

However, the NPP’s position shifted just a day after the Accra High Court dismissed an injunction application filed by Nana Akua Afriyie that sought to stop the rerun.

During a press conference on July 8, 2025, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong reaffirmed the party’s firm belief that its candidate had secured victory in December.

“For us in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), we are resolute and we know that our candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, won the elections with a margin of 414 votes. This is based on facts and figures,” Mr. Frimpong asserted.

He emphasized that the NPP’s National Executive Committee remains steadfast in defending what the party believes to be its rightful electoral mandate.

“We are not going to be intimidated,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Citi FM’s reporter Fauzu Masawudu, who visited the constituency, confirmed that hundreds of NPP supporters have since hit the ground, vigorously campaigning ahead of the Friday election.

Many supporters cited the Electoral Commission’s decision to retain Nana Akua Afriyie’s image on the ballot paper as a key reason for resuming their campaign efforts.

The upcoming rerun is expected to be fiercely contested, with tensions still simmering following months of political and legal battles over the disputed parliamentary seat.
