Resume re-collation of disputed Parliamentary seats – NPP to EC
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to resume the re-collation of parliamentary election results for key constituencies from the December 7 polls. The NPP claims that its internal collation shows victories in ten constituencies, including Dome-Kwabenya, Techiman South, and Tema Central, among others.
NPP’s Position:
- At a press conference on December 16, former NPP Chairman Peter Mac Manu called for the immediate resumption of the re-collation process.
- He emphasized the need for security to ensure a peaceful collation and urged the NDC to restrain its supporters.
- The NPP also highlighted its declared victories in Suhum, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia following earlier re-collation efforts.
EC’s Challenge:
The EC’s re-collation process at the National Police Training School in Tesano was suspended to allow consultations with political parties after tensions arose. The controversies surrounding the process reflect the stakes for both major political parties in shaping parliamentary outcomes, particularly in a closely contested election.
The re-collation results are crucial for determining parliamentary representation in constituencies where the election results remain contested.
