Three Dead, 23 Injured in Cape Coast Bus Accident

A tragic accident involving a Takoradi-Accra bound bus resulted in the deaths of three passengers and left 23 others injured near the Aggrey Memorial School intersection in Cape Coast on Friday, December 27, 2024.

The bus, registered as GW 6231-21 and carrying 53 passengers, overturned and trapped several individuals inside. Emergency responders, including the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), police, and ambulance personnel, worked together to rescue those affected.

Emergency Response and Casualties
The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Abdul Wasiu Hudu, reported that the accident occurred around 6:48 am.

Three passengers were confirmed dead after being transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. Meanwhile, 23 others are receiving treatment for various injuries at the hospital, while nine passengers were treated and discharged.

Cause of the Accident
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined. However, authorities are conducting investigations to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The tragedy highlights the need for continued efforts to improve road safety in Ghana as the nation grapples with frequent road accidents.
