Police Gun Down Suspected Armed Robber in Wenchi, Bono Region

Wenchi, Bono Region – A suspected armed robber was shot dead during a confrontation with police on the Wenchi-Awisa road early Saturday, December 28, 2024.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m. when police patrol units intercepted a robbery operation targeting passengers on a Sprinter and a Yutong bus near the Awisa cemetery.

According to a reliable source within the Wenchi Police, the deceased was among four armed robbers who had ambushed the stretch and were robbing passengers of their belongings. A firefight ensued when the police intervened, leaving one suspect dead while the other three fled the scene.

Items Recovered
The police recovered a locally manufactured single-barrel gun, a student bag containing two Itel mobile phones, a power bank, six BB cartridges, and an undisclosed amount of money from the deceased suspect.

Fortunately, all passengers escaped unharmed.

Ongoing Investigation
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Wenchi Government Hospital mortuary, while police investigations continue to track down the fleeing suspects.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the other culprits.
