NDC to Appoint New MMDCEs Nationwide Within Two Weeks

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has announced that new Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) will be appointed within the next two weeks.

Speaking to Citi News, Ashie Moore revealed that the decision to appoint new MMDCEs follows the termination of current officeholders as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader plan to restructure local governance.

The termination of MMDCE appointments was officially announced by the Presidency on January 8, 2025. This move forms part of efforts to realign leadership within assemblies nationwide to ensure more effective governance.

Ashie Moore assured party supporters that the selection process is being handled with care to identify competent individuals for the positions. He disclosed that the NDC has commenced screening prospective candidates this week as part of the selection process.

“Per our party’s machinery, this week we are also conducting a screening of the nominations for prospective candidates for those positions. So, I can assure party members, especially in my region, that if all goes well, by the close of the next 14 days, we will have MMDCEs in place. They should cooperate with us,” he said.

The Regional Chairman appealed to NDC members to remain patient while the President and the party finalize the appointments. He emphasized that the President’s goal is to select capable and qualified individuals who can deliver on their mandates effectively.

The anticipated appointments are expected to bring new energy and vision to Ghana’s local governance structures, with a focus on enhancing service delivery and development across the country.
