Black Satellites’ 2009 U-20 World Cup heroes invited to collect investment cheques
SAS Finance Group has informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the maturity of a 15-year investment made on behalf of the Black Satellites’ 2009 U-20 World Cup-winning team by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The investment, totaling GH₵210,000, allocated GH₵10,000 to each of the 21 players in 2009. The funds are now available for collection at the SAS office in Accra starting January 8, 2025. Players must present a valid Ghana Card or provide a notarized Power of Attorney if a representative collects the cheque on their behalf.
The investment also included annual insurance coverage for the players, which supported their life and health-related expenses over the past 15 years.
The Black Satellites made history in 2009 by becoming the first Ghanaian team to win the U-20 World Cup, defeating Brazil on penalties after a 0-0 draw despite being reduced to 10 men during the match.
