Isaac Adongo Rejects Minority’s Call for Vice President’s Presence in Budget Debate

Accra, March 14, 2025Bolgatanga Central MP, Isaac Adongo, has dismissed the Minority’s call for Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to attend Parliament’s debate on the 2025 budget statement, arguing that the request is inconsistent and unnecessary.

Adongo Challenges Minority’s Position

Addressing Parliament, Adongo questioned the rationale behind the Minority’s demand, citing the absence of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in past budget debates.

🔹 “A few days ago, you were on this side of the House, organizing this committee meeting. Did you ever schedule for Dr. Bawumia to appear before the House? Or do you believe that just showing up and nodding his head constituted participation?” he asked.

🔹 He emphasized that Vice President Opoku-Agyemang has significant responsibilities and cannot be expected to attend Parliamentary proceedings merely as a passive observer.

Vice President Will Speak at the Right Time

Dismissing claims that the Vice President has been silent on national issues, Adongo insisted that she has been active in engagements beyond the chamber.

🔹 “If you claim she has been quiet, we cannot force you to listen to her. However, I listened to her yesterday, and so did many Ghanaians,” he said.

🔹 He reassured Parliament that Opoku-Agyemang would address the House when necessary, stating, “You may not hear her in the chamber now, but when the time is right, she will be here.”

The debate over the Vice President’s role in budget discussions adds to the ongoing political discourse surrounding the 2025 fiscal policy and governance transparency.
