Finance Minister-designate Vows to Maintain and Enhance Free SHS

Accra, Ghana – Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Mahama government to uphold and improve the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. This commitment aligns with President Mahama’s campaign promise to build upon, rather than dismantle, the existing program.
During his vetting by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee on January 13th, Dr. Forson expressed his full support for the President’s stance. He emphasized the government’s intention to preserve and strengthen the Free SHS policy for the benefit of students nationwide.
“Our party’s position on Free SHS has been clearly stated by H.E. President [John Dramani Mahama]. We have no intention of abolishing it. President Mahama has confirmed that Free SHS is here to stay,” Dr. Forson stated.
He further added, “I believe no further assurance is necessary. The President of the Republic of Ghana has made the statement, and as a minister appointed by him, I fully support his position. You have the assurance from the highest level of government that the policy will be preserved.”
This statement provides a clear indication that the Mahama government intends to continue and enhance the Free SHS program, building upon the foundation laid by the previous administration.
