Appointments Committee rejects Vormawor’s allegations of extortion from nominees

The Appointments Committee of Parliament has forcefully rejected allegations from activist Oliver Barker Vormawor, who claimed that committee members demand money from ministerial nominees before their vetting and approval.

Ahead of Tuesday’s vetting session for Defence Minister-designate, Dr. Omane Boamah, the committee’s Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, issued a strong denial of the allegations.

In a statement, Ahiafor, who also serves as the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, dismissed the claims as unfounded and inappropriate.

“I, Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Committee and 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, and the committee members do not demand money from nominees before vetting them.

“I will therefore demand the clerk of the committee to invite Oliver Barker Vormawor to appear before the committee to provide evidence of the allegations,” Ahiafor stated.

The Committee’s action comes as the issue threatens to stir up further controversy on the appointment committee and dent the image of the committee. .

The Appointments Committee plays a crucial role in vetting and approving nominees for various ministerial positions in the Ghanaian government.
