Greater Accra Minister Linda Ocloo Prioritizes Security and Sanitation

Accra, Ghana – February 3, 2025 – Newly sworn-in Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has pledged to focus on security and sanitation as key areas to improve the capital city.

Sanitation Initiatives

In her first meeting with the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), Ocloo announced the reintroduction of the Regional Sanitation Day and an award scheme for the cleanest city. These initiatives aim to enhance cleanliness and promote community participation in waste management.

She emphasized that municipal and local district assemblies would receive support to become self-sustaining, aligning with the government’s “Resetting Agenda.”

Strengthening Local Governance

To improve decentralization and participatory governance, Ocloo plans to collaborate closely with traditional leaders and religious organizations.

Additionally, she stressed the empowerment of Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to enhance revenue generation for sustainable local development.

Strengthening zonal and area councils will remain a priority to ensure MMDAs receive adequate technical support and monitoring as mandated by the Local Governance Act 936,” she stated.

A New Vision for Accra

As Greater Accra faces growing urban challenges, Ocloo’s focus on sanitation, security, and governance is expected to bring significant improvements to the capital’s development.
