Accra, Ghana – February 5, 2025 – The Government of Ghana has announced a significant reduction in the Hajj performance fee, lowering the cost from GH¢75,000 under the previous administration to GH¢62,000 for the 2025 pilgrimage.
This move fulfills President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise to make Hajj more affordable for Ghanaian Muslims.
Extensive Negotiations in Saudi Arabia
The decision follows negotiations led by a five-member government task force, which traveled to Saudi Arabia to engage with service providers and address challenges related to the pilgrimage.
Speaking on behalf of the task force, Collins Dauda, MP for Asutifi South, reiterated the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on prospective pilgrims.
“During the 2024 election campaign, President John Dramani Mahama pledged to the Muslim community that if elected, he would reduce the Hajj fare to make the pilgrimage more accessible.
We swiftly acted on this promise, forming a task force that participated in the annual Hajj conference in Saudi Arabia and engaged service providers in Mecca and Medina to secure better rates,” Dauda stated.
2025 Hajj Fee Set at GH¢62,000 ($4,130)
Through these efforts, the task force successfully negotiated a fee reduction. The 2025 Hajj fare has now been set at GH¢62,000, approximately $4,130.
Beyond the cost reduction, the government is also focused on improving logistical arrangements and pilgrim accommodation to enhance the overall Hajj experience.
The fee reduction is expected to increase participation in the annual pilgrimage, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the Muslim community.
