Interior Minister Renews Curfew in Bawku Amid Security Concerns

Bawku, March 4, 2025 – The Minister for Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has announced the renewal of the curfew imposed on Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas, following recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

The renewed curfew takes effect from Monday, March 3, 2025, with curfew hours remaining 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The restrictions will be reviewed or renewed after a week, depending on the security situation.

Ban on Weapons Still in Force

The Interior Minister also reaffirmed the ban on carrying offensive weapons, arms, or ammunition within the affected areas. He issued a strong warning that anyone caught violating the ban will be arrested and prosecuted.

Ongoing Conflict and Security Measures

Bawku has been under curfew since November 2021 due to a longstanding chieftaincy conflict that has resulted in numerous casualties and heightened security concerns. Authorities continue to implement strict security measures to restore peace and protect residents.
