Lucas Paquetá’s Betting Charge Hearing Set to Last Three Weeks

London, March 8, 2025 – West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá is set to face a three-week hearing this month over betting rule breaches, in what is expected to be one of the longest court proceedings in the Football Association’s (FA) history, according to Sky Sports News.
The Brazilian was charged in May 2024 for alleged spot-fixing offences in four Premier League matches and could face a lifetime ban if found guilty.
FA’s Charges Against Paquetá
🔹 The FA alleges that Paquetá deliberately sought yellow cards in matches against Leicester (Nov 2022), Aston Villa (Mar 2023), Leeds (May 2023), and Bournemouth (Aug 2023) to influence the betting market.
🔹 He faces additional charges for failing to comply with FA Rule F2 regarding the provision of information and documents.
🔹 The FA is pushing for a lifetime ban from football.
Paquetá’s Response
✅ The Brazilian international denies any wrongdoing and has vowed to clear his name.
✅ “I am extremely surprised and upset that the FA has decided to charge me. For nine months, I have cooperated with every step of their investigation and provided all the information I can,” he said in a statement last year.
Current Developments
📌 The FA and West Ham United have declined to comment on the case.
📌 If found guilty, Paquetá’s future in football could be severely impacted, with the potential for a lifetime ban from the sport.
The hearing is set to be closely watched as it could become one of the most significant betting-related cases in recent football history.
