NHIA Commends President Mahama for Uncapping National Health Insurance Fund

Accra, March 12, 2025 – The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his decision to uncap the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), a move expected to enhance healthcare accessibility across Ghana.
The announcement was made by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during his presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement in Parliament on March 11, 2025.
Budget Allocation for NHIS
Dr. Forson revealed that GH¢9.93 billion has been allocated to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for:
✔ Claim payments
✔ Essential medicines
✔ Vaccine payments
✔ Free Primary Healthcare
✔ Ghana Medical Care Trust (MahamaCares)
✔ Bridging the USAID financing shortfall
NHIA Applauds the Policy
In a statement dated March 11, 2025, NHIA CEO Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe described the uncapping decision as a landmark policy fulfillment, aligning with the government’s commitment to sustainable and accessible healthcare for all Ghanaians.
“The uncapping of the NHIF means more funds will be available to improve healthcare services, expand coverage, and enhance efficiency within the NHIS,” Dr. Bampoe stated.
This move also fulfills a key campaign promise and underscores the administration’s dedication to healthcare reform in Ghana.
