Napo Slams Mahama’s First 100 Days: ‘It’s So Bad, I Can’t Even Rate Him’

ACCRA, April 17, 2025 — Former Manhyia South MP and 2024 NPP running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), has delivered a damning critique of President John Dramani Mahama’s first 100 days in office, describing his performance as abysmal and unworthy of a rating.

Speaking to journalists at the NPP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the Alisa Hotel in Ridge, Napo declined to assign a score when asked to assess the President’s return to power.

“It will be so bad, I don’t want to rate him,” Napo said bluntly.

He then launched into a detailed criticism of the government’s record, citing deterioration in power supply, illegal mining (galamsey), drug-related arrests, and security challenges.

“We had constant electricity, but what is happening now? We had galamsey as an issue, what is happening now? We had improved on illicit drug issues. I’m not talking about Rev. Ntim Fordjour; I’m talking about arresting more culprits in the last three months than in the eight years we were in office.”

Napo also raised concerns about alleged increases in currency and gold smuggling under Mahama’s administration, with some cases reportedly linked to NDC parliamentary candidates.

“We arrested more currency and gold smuggling in this country than we’ve ever heard in the last three months,” he noted.

Security Concerns in Bawku and Beyond

On the issue of national security, Napo expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in Bawku, warning that the situation is rapidly deteriorating.

“More people have been killed in the last few months than probably was in the last four years. I was hoping that his [President Mahama’s] tenure, we would not deteriorate.”

Actions, Not Words

Concluding his assessment, Napo called out the President’s inability to match his rhetoric with action.

“Talk is cheap, because if you can’t support your talk with actions…”

Napo’s remarks underscore the opposition’s growing frustration with Mahama’s early months in office, while setting the tone for what may become an increasingly confrontational political climate in the lead-up to the next electoral cycle.
