OSP Issues Ultimatum to Former Finance Minister Ofori-Atta Over Corruption Probe

Accra, Ghana – March 2025 – The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a stern warning to former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, stating that he will be re-listed as a wanted person if he fails to appear for questioning on June 2, 2025.

The ultimatum follows an earlier agreement between Mr. Ofori-Atta and the OSP, in which he assured authorities of his willingness to cooperate with ongoing corruption investigations. Based on this commitment, the OSP removed his name from its wanted persons list, pending his scheduled in-person questioning.

Legal Threats and Interpol Red Notice

A statement from Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has now reinforced the legal stakes should Mr. Ofori-Atta fail to honor his obligation.

📌 “Mr. Ofori-Atta is mandatorily required to appear in person before the OSP on 2 June 2025. If he fails to attend, he shall be re-entered on the OSP’s list of wanted persons and considered a fugitive from justice,” the statement warned.

The OSP further stated that failure to comply would result in the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice, as well as extradition proceedings in any country where he may be found.

Ofori-Atta’s Legal Battle

In response, Mr. Ofori-Atta has filed a lawsuit against the OSP, seeking an injunction to prevent the office from reinstating him as a wanted person. His legal team argues that:
🔹 The OSP’s actions lack legal basis
🔹 The allegations have damaged his reputation
🔹 He has cooperated through his legal representatives

However, the OSP maintains that Mr. Ofori-Atta is the prime suspect in five ongoing corruption investigations and must personally appear before authorities.

OSP’s Commitment to Justice

The Special Prosecutor’s office has emphasized its unwavering commitment to accountability, stating:

📌 “The OSP remains firm in ensuring that Mr. Ofori-Atta answers for his role in the corruption-related investigations.”

As the legal battle continues, all attention will be on June 2, 2025, when Mr. Ofori-Atta is expected to face questioning. Failure to appear could trigger an international pursuit through Interpol and extradition channels.
