Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson Acquitted in High-Profile Trial

📍 Accra, Ghana – April 10, 2025 – The Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, has hailed his acquittal as vindication from a politically motivated trial following a ruling by the Accra High Court on April 9, 2025.

🔹 Quayson had been facing charges of forgery and perjury over allegations that he held Canadian citizenship when he contested the 2020 parliamentary elections.

Quayson’s Reaction & Claims of Political Influence

🗣️ Speaking to journalists after the ruling, Quayson reaffirmed his innocence, stating:
“When you are not wrong, there is nothing you should worry about. No matter where you put the person, they will bounce back… I know I am innocent. I didn’t come here to bother anybody. I came here to help my community and serve my people.”

📌 He further insisted that he fulfilled all legal requirements ahead of the election but believes the trial was driven by political interests rather than legal merit.

“I made sure I did the right thing, but everything seems to be playing politics. We all knew that it was politically motivated. You heard the facts from the judges,” he added.
