Bawku Unrest: MP Mahama Ayariga’s House Set on Fire Amid Rising Tensions

📍 Bawku, Ghana – April 10, 2025 – A yet-to-be-identified youth group has partially set ablaze the residence of Bawku Central MP and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, in what appears to be an escalation of ongoing tensions in the Bawku Municipality.

🔹 The attack, which occurred on Thursday, April 10, follows a violent shooting incident on Wednesday that left one person dead and two others critically injured.

Military Steps In to Restore Order

👮 Reports from TV3 confirm that military forces have intervened to regain control and prevent further violence in the conflict-ridden area.

🏠 In addition to Ayariga’s residence, the private home of Bawku Divisional Police Commander, ACP Adamu Seidu, was also set on fire.

Chieftaincy Dispute at the Heart of the Violence

⚠️ The unrest reportedly stems from an ongoing chieftaincy dispute, with a faction allegedly demanding that women from the opposing group vacate the market premises.

💥 The situation escalated into a scuffle, prompting a police intervention. However, tensions boiled over when some youth allegedly opened fire on the police, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

🚨 Security forces remain on high alert as authorities work to restore peace in the troubled municipality.
