Sekondi MP Blay Nyameke Armah Sues Jospong Group, Ignite Media for Defamation

📍 Accra, Ghana – April 9, 2025Blay Nyameke Armah, Member of Parliament for Sekondi, has filed a defamation lawsuit in the High Court of Justice, Accra, against three defendants: Lawuratu Musah-Saka, the Jospong Group of Companies, and Ignite Media Group.

Allegations of Defamation

🔹 The lawsuit follows alleged defamatory remarks made on the widely viewed television programme “Good Morning Ghana”, which were further circulated across social media platforms.

🔹 In his writ, Armah asserts that the first defendant falsely accused him of being involved in transnational drug trafficking, specifically the possession of 3,000 kilograms of cocaine valued at $350 million.

🔹 The defamatory statements, according to Armah, also suggested that he had fled to a neighboring country to evade arrest and that his son had been arrested in connection with the alleged drug trade.

Impact on the Plaintiff

⚖️ Armah, a lawyer, businessman, and MP, contends that these baseless allegations have:
Severely damaged his reputation
Exposed him to public ridicule
Caused significant emotional distress

🔹 He argues that the statements were made maliciously, without any supporting evidence, and intended to portray him as a criminal kingpin.

Legal Demands

In his legal action, Armah is seeking multiple remedies from the court, including:

📌 A declaration that the statements were false, malicious, and defamatory.
📌 A retraction and public apology from the defendants, issued with the same prominence as the defamatory content.
📌 A perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from publishing any further defamatory statements against him.
📌 Compensatory, aggravated, punitive, and general damages amounting to GH₵10,000,000.00.
📌 Legal costs and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court.
