Military, Police to ensure security as EC resumes re-collation of results

EC Resumes Re-Collation of Election Results Amid Tight Security

The Electoral Commission (EC) has resumed the re-collation of results in select constituencies, with heightened security measures in place to ensure a smooth and transparent process.

The National Election Security Task Force announced on Friday, December 20, that the Ghana Armed Forces and Police Service will collaborate to maintain order and prevent disruptions at collation centres.

Heightened Security

ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service and spokesperson for the security task force, stated that the military deployment is intended to create a conducive environment for the EC to carry out its duties without interference.

This follows tensions and disputes surrounding the collation and declaration of election results in certain areas.

Purpose of the Re-Collation

The EC’s re-collation exercise seeks to address anomalies and disputes identified in specific constituencies. Officials have emphasized their commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring accurate results.

Public Advisory

The EC and security agencies have urged the public to:

  • Avoid gatherings near collation centres to prevent confrontations.
  • Cooperate with security personnel and EC officials during this critical process.

Stakeholders’ Role

The EC has called on political parties and their supporters to remain calm and cooperative, stressing the importance of peace and integrity in safeguarding Ghana’s democratic process.

As the re-collation exercise progresses, security agencies remain vigilant to ensure order and transparency in the electoral process.
