NACOC Seizes 89.74kg of Suspected Cocaine at Swiss Port; Four in Custody

ACCRA, Ghana – April 23, 2025 — The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a major drug shipment at the Swiss Port in Accra, confiscating 73 slabs of a substance suspected to be cocaine, weighing a total of 89.74 kilograms.

According to NACOC officials, the cargo was intercepted while being prepared for shipment to the Netherlands. The discovery was made during routine checks, and swift action led to the arrest of four suspects, who are currently in NACOC custody assisting with investigations.

The operation took place on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, and was reported by journalist Kester Aburam Korankye.

NACOC has yet to release the identities of the suspects, but confirmed that the concealed narcotics were cleverly hidden within the cargo shipment. Investigators believe this may be part of a larger drug trafficking network targeting European destinations.

The commission says it will collaborate with international partners to trace the origin and intended recipients of the illicit shipment.

This latest bust adds to growing concerns about Ghana’s role as a transit point in the international narcotics trade and highlights the ongoing efforts of local authorities to stem the tide of drug smuggling through the country’s ports.
