Ghana and Morocco Abolish Visa Requirements in Landmark Bilateral Agreement

Accra, Ghana – June 5, 2025
In a major diplomatic stride, Ghanaian citizens no longer need traditional visas to travel to Morocco, following a bilateral agreement between the two nations. The breakthrough policy was officially announced by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, via Facebook, and takes immediate effect.

The previous visa requirement has now been replaced with a streamlined online travel authorisation system, which can be processed within 24 hours—eliminating the long-standing need for embassy appointments and paperwork.
“This is one of the significant agreements reached yesterday with the Foreign Minister of Morocco, H.E. Nasser Bourita, during my two-day working visit,” Ablakwa stated.
The agreement is expected to significantly boost trade, tourism, and cross-cultural exchanges. With direct flights already operational between Accra and key Moroccan cities, officials anticipate increased travel and economic activity. Additional flight routes are reportedly being considered in response to the new agreement.
“The borders in Africa must not be allowed to divide us — they can be bridges of connectivity,” Ablakwa added, underscoring the spirit of African unity that guided the negotiations.
Observers hail the move as a model for pan-African cooperation, particularly at a time when global mobility is increasingly restricted for African travelers in other regions of the world.
The Moroccan government is expected to make a reciprocal arrangement for Moroccan citizens traveling to Ghana.
