GHC13 Million Bail for Four Suspects in Kotoka Cocaine Bust Case

Accra, May 7, 2025 — The Accra High Court has granted bail of GHC13 million each to four individuals standing trial over the attempted export of 73 slabs of cocaine through the Swissport terminal at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The accused persons — Gariba Soli, an artefact dealer at the Arts Centre, and three freight forwarders: Josiah Baidoo, Emmanuel Mintah, and Kwabena Ampfo Anti — were each granted bail with four sureties. They are also subject to strict bail conditions, including:
- Reporting twice weekly to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).
- Being placed on a no-fly list.
- Having their biodata submitted to the Passport Office to prevent the acquisition of new travel documents.
The suspects are facing multiple charges:
- Attempting to export a narcotic substance without a license,
- Conspiracy to commit a crime, and
- Possession of a narcotic substance without a license.
According to the prosecution, NACOC officers discovered the cocaine during a routine inspection of three wooden boxes labelled as containing artefacts at the airport’s cargo terminal. Upon deeper scrutiny, the boxes were found to hold 73 slabs of powdered substances, which later tested positive for cocaine.
The prime suspect, Gariba Soli, claimed he had been contracted by an individual named Kevin to ship artefacts to the Netherlands. He insists he was unaware of the drugs and believed he was only shipping cultural items.
The court has adjourned the case as investigations continue, with growing attention on possible international links and logistical loopholes at KIA.
