The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has revealed plans to establish six overseas offices in a bid to combat the growing issue of fake Ghanaian driving licences among the diaspora.
This announcement was made during the commissioning of a new ultra-modern DVLA office in Adentan on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The newly opened facility will operate 24 hours a day, providing full DVLA services, including vehicle registration and driver licensing.
Speaking to journalists, DVLA Chief Executive Officer, Julius Neequaye Kotey, said the international expansion is part of a strategic reform to uphold the credibility of Ghanaian licences abroad.
“The DVLA under my leadership, together with Foster Yeboah, is going to open six new stations, which are going to be outside Ghana to address licensing issues,” Kotey explained. “So far, we have approached some embassies, and we have been able to get Germany, UK, USA, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa on board. We are going to begin piloting with them.”
The overseas offices are expected to offer authentication services and eliminate the circulation of counterfeit Ghanaian licences among the diaspora, particularly in countries with high Ghanaian populations.
Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, who graced the commissioning ceremony as the guest speaker, urged the DVLA to continuously enhance its operations and service delivery.
“On behalf of the President, we charge DVLA to improve service delivery,” Nikpe said. “They are responsible for registering and ensuring that any vehicle that plies our road is roadworthy. They must ensure they provide quality service to the people of Ghana.”
The initiative marks a significant step toward modernising the DVLA’s global footprint and aligning its operations with international standards.
