IGP Presses EC for Roadmap to Resolve Ablekuma North Parliamentary Stalemate

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has issued a strong appeal to the Electoral Commission (EC) to urgently provide a definitive roadmap for completing the long-overdue collation of parliamentary results in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Months after the 2024 general elections, Ablekuma North remains the only constituency in Ghana without a sitting Member of Parliament. The delay stems from unresolved disputes over the parliamentary election outcome, creating tension and raising questions about the integrity of the electoral process.

Speaking ahead of a scheduled engagement with the EC, Dr. Yohuno stressed the need for immediate and transparent action.

“The EC must provide the National Election Security Taskforce with a roadmap for the formalisation of the collation,” he said, adding that the delay is eroding public trust and could have long-term consequences for Ghana’s democratic image.

“This is a pivotal moment. The way we handle the collation in Ablekuma North will resonate across the country. It will set the tone, not only for this election, but also for public confidence in the years to come,” the IGP added.

He called on all stakeholders, including political parties and electoral officers, to prioritise peace and national interest by working toward a swift and fair resolution.

“Let us secure not just the ballot boxes but also the belief in the system. Let us not protect just physical lives but also the spirit of democracy,” he emphasized.

The IGP’s statement adds to growing calls for transparency and finality in the lingering electoral dispute as citizens demand closure and representation in Parliament.
