School Feeding Caterers to Petition Asantehene Over Terminated Contracts

Caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme have announced plans to petition the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, seeking his intervention following the termination of their contracts by the Mahama-led administration.

The contracts of all caterers were officially terminated on May 2, 2025, without any clear indication of when new contracts will be issued. Although the government has promised to settle outstanding arrears, it has yet to provide a definite payment schedule.

Speaking on Eyewitness News with Sammi Wiafe, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the National School Feeding Caterers Association, Madam Margaret Larbi, revealed that the group intends to seek support from both traditional and religious leaders.

“Our President said we have petitions to be sent. We’re trying to get in touch with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to intervene,” she said.

She added that the caterers are also reaching out to other respected national figures, including the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu.

“So, we’re trying to get him to go and plead on our behalf. We’re trying to go to the Chief Imam. Tomorrow [Friday, May 9], we have a lot to do to send some petitions to other influential individuals in the country to be able to speak on our behalf,” Madam Larbi stated.
