Police Arrest Suspect with 92 Slabs of Suspected Indian Hemp in Akatsi

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man identified as Bukari Yakubu in connection with the possession of 92 slabs of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp in Akatsi, Volta Region.

The arrest was made during an intelligence-led operation at Bukari’s residence on Saturday, 10th May 2025, at around 1:00 am. According to a police statement, Bukari had been under surveillance following credible information about his involvement in narcotics activities.

“A search conducted at his residence led to the retrieval of 92 slabs of a substance wrapped in yellowish material, suspected to be Indian hemp, and two Royal motorbikes, suspected to be stolen,” the statement revealed.

Police say preliminary investigations confirm that the suspect has been actively engaged in narcotic distribution within Akatsi and its surrounding communities. Upon initial interrogation, Bukari reportedly admitted ownership of both the drugs and the motorbikes.

He is currently in police custody and is assisting with investigations. Authorities have assured the public that the suspect will be arraigned before court soon.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to clamping down on drug trafficking and related criminal activities to ensure the safety and security of all communities.
