The Ministry of the Interior has officially announced that Monday, August 4, 2025, will not be observed as a public holiday.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 31, the ministry addressed widespread speculation regarding the status of the date—previously marked as Founders’ Day—clarifying that it does not appear on the list of statutory holidays approved for 2025.
The ministry cited the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025, and urged the public to refer to the official national holiday calendar as approved by the President.
“Only holidays listed in the official 2025 calendar are to be observed as public holidays. August 4 does not appear on that list,” the statement said.
The public, businesses, and institutions have been advised to disregard rumours and proceed with normal work and business activities on that date.
This clarification comes amid growing public debate and confusion over whether the former Founders’ Day would be reinstated as a holiday in 2025. The Interior Ministry’s statement settles that matter for now.
