NPP Rejects Calls for Re-Run in Ablekuma North, Declares Akua Afriyie Winner

Accra, May 10, 2025 – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed growing calls for a re-run of the parliamentary election in Ablekuma North, asserting that its candidate, Akua Afriyie, emerged the clear winner in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on Channel One TV, the party’s Greater Accra Regional Secretary, Daniel Parker Odarlai, confirmed that the party had thoroughly reviewed the results and found no basis for a repeat of the election.

“As I speak, we have compared results and we are left with only three polling stations,” Odarlai explained. “It is not the case that the NDC was left out. There were even instances where the NDC submitted photocopies of pink sheets — some unclear — but we still compared them with ours and agreed.”

He insisted that Akua Afriyie won the parliamentary race with a margin of 349 votes, making a re-run unnecessary. “We don’t agree to a re-run,” he emphasized.

Ablekuma North remains the only constituency without a sitting Member of Parliament, months after the elections, due to disputes over the parliamentary results.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at a meeting involving the Police Management Board and the National Election Security Taskforce, highlighted the importance of a clear electoral roadmap to enhance coordination between security agencies and election stakeholders in resolving such matters.
