Call for Probe Intensifies Over Sammy Gyamfi’s Cash Gift to Nana Agradaa

Accra, May 13, 2025 – Pressure continues to mount on the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, as Ibrahim Adjei, a former Assistant Secretary at the Office of ex-President Akufo-Addo, has called for an urgent investigation into the source of the money Gyamfi gifted to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiama, widely known as Nana Agradaa.
The controversy erupted after viral footage showed Gyamfi handing over an **undisclosed amount—reportedly in U.S. dollars—**to Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who has since transitioned into a self-styled Christian evangelist.
Adjei, speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, May 12, argued that the issue is not just about the act itself but the origin of the funds, especially in light of President John Mahama’s newly launched Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which emphasizes transparency, accountability, and integrity.
“What needs to be done is an investigation into the money that he was sharing. Can you imagine how many dollars Sammy Gyamfi is sharing when the public or cameras are not in sight?” Adjei questioned. “Let us find out where this generosity is coming from.”
He further criticized Gyamfi by referencing the CEO’s own past comments about money laundering, in which Gyamfi stated that possessing unaccounted-for wealth inconsistent with one’s income should warrant investigation.
“Sammy Gyamfi on TV3 said that if you are caught in possession of money that you cannot account for, that is not commensurate with your salary or income, then you are engaged in money laundering,” Adjei emphasized.
He called for Gyamfi to immediately disclose the source of the money, stating:
“Before any formal investigation, Sammy Gyamfi must tell us what land he sold, what business he runs, or what income source funded this gesture.”
Though Gyamfi apologized in a May 11 Facebook post, calling the donation a private act of kindness, the growing backlash suggests that public trust and adherence to ethical standards in public service remain at stake.
The incident has reignited broader concerns about financial propriety and the perception of public officials in Ghana.
