Ex-Signals Bureau Boss Adu-Boahene Remains in Custody Despite Lapsed Remand

Accra, May 13, 2025 – Former National Signals Bureau Director Kwabena Adu-Boahene remains in custody despite the expiration of a seven working day remand period ordered by the court. He was originally detained on Friday, May 2, over witness tampering allegations related to an ongoing high-profile trial involving stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
Appearing in court on Tuesday, May 13, his legal counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, informed the judge that Adu-Boahene had been rearrested on a new but unspecified matter, following the expiration of the original remand. The specifics of this fresh arrest remain undisclosed in open court.
However, previous remarks from the Attorney General suggest Adu-Boahene is being investigated in relation to an internet connectivity case at Ghana Water Limited, raising further questions about the scope of allegations facing the former intelligence chief.
In the primary case, Adu-Boahene is accused of facilitating the diversion of GH¢49.1 million, with the state alleging significant financial misconduct. The judge has adjourned proceedings to May 26 for a case management conference. The prosecution has filed all its witness statements and is expected to disclose them to the defense by May 20.
This development adds another layer of complexity to a case that has drawn national attention due to its implications for state security and public funds.
