Asante Youth Association urges President Mahama to reverse removal of KATH CEO

The Asante Youth Association has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to reverse his decision to replace Dr. Otchere Addai-Mensah as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The group expressed strong dissatisfaction with the dismissal, warning that it could jeopardize the “Heal Komfo Anokye” project—a major renovation initiative led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to transform the hospital’s infrastructure.
The youth group has also urged the hospital’s board chairman to suspend the inauguration of the newly appointed CEO, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, until further consultations are made.

Addressing the media in Kumasi on Monday, May 5, Vice President of the Asante Youth Association, Nana Oppong Boadi, criticized the decision and called for depoliticization of key appointments in the health sector.

“…If all of a sudden Addai-Mensah is put aside, it will retard the progress of Komfo Anokye and because of this that is why we are saying no to the decision,” he said.
He further suggested that the President may not be fully aware of the implications of the change, accusing unnamed government officials of acting in ways detrimental to Asanteman.
“This is about health, and Addai-Mensah has exhibited professionalism as a CEO,” he emphasized.
A letter from the presidency, sighted by Citi News, confirmed the appointment of Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Medical Association, as the new CEO.
