ACCRA | June 1, 2025 — Joseph Ade Coker, a respected political figure and former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has passed away, Citi News has confirmed.
He died on Saturday, May 31, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a brief illness, according to sources close to the family. The exact cause of death has not been officially disclosed.
Ade Coker was a stalwart of the NDC, first elected as the party’s Greater Accra Regional Chairman in 2009, and served three consecutive terms. His tenure was marked by strong advocacy, grassroots engagement, and unwavering commitment to the party’s development in the capital region.
He lost his re-election bid in 2022 to Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, the current regional chairman, but remained a respected voice within the NDC.
Outside politics, Ade Coker was also well known in the world of sports administration, having served as a Vice Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). His dual contributions to both governance and sports made him a recognizable and influential figure in national discourse.
He was widely admired for his outspoken views on national issues, his loyalty to the party, and his dedication to public service.
Ade Coker’s passing marks a significant loss for both the political and sporting communities in Ghana.
Funeral arrangements and official statements from the NDC are expected in the coming days.
