Mahama Orders Urgent Completion of Maaban-Goaso Highway to Boost Ahafo Development

GOASO, AHAFO REGION | June 1, 2025 — President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministry for Roads and Highways to urgently prioritise the rehabilitation and completion of the Maaban-Goaso Highway, a critical infrastructure project in the Ahafo Region.
The directive was issued on Saturday, May 31, during the President’s “Thank You Tour” in Goaso, where he underscored the highway’s importance to regional transportation, trade, and investment.
“We will not abandon projects that were begun by the past government. We’re here to finish what we started and to build what is needed. We will soon have contractors back at work,” President Mahama assured a cheering crowd.
Highlighting the principle of governance continuity, the President reiterated his commitment to completing all stalled and abandoned infrastructure projects, regardless of which administration initiated them.
“We have taken inventory of all abandoned and uncompleted projects by all previous governments,” he disclosed.
President Mahama emphasized that the Maaban-Goaso Highway is vital for mobility and trade in the Ahafo Region. He directed the Ministry to fast-track the project and also called for upgrades to urban roads in Goaso, Kenyase, and Acherensua to support local development and improve transport safety.
“This is a crucial link for mobility and trade across the region. In addition to the urban roads in Goaso, Kenyase, and Acherensua, these town roads should be upgraded to support urban growth and improve transport safety,” he said.
The completion of these road projects is expected to enhance access to markets, reduce travel time, create jobs, and stimulate economic activity across the Ahafo Region and beyond.
The Maaban-Goaso directive is seen as part of a broader effort by the Mahama administration to restore trust in public infrastructure delivery and reignite local economies through strategic investment in transport systems.
